Parks and Open Space
Parks and Open Space become ever more important as more people move to Snohomish County. Dave has been a champion for more parks in his district including:
- Gold Creek Park (near 148th and 41st): This roughly 5 acre site is a cooperative effort between Snohomish County and Mill Creek. Snohomish County provided the money to purchase the property. Mill Creek will develop and maintain it.
- Tutmark Hill Park (near 15th and Maple Road): Another cooperative effort, this time between the county and Lynnwood. This 8 acre site will provide badly needed recreation opportunities when Lynnwood completes development.
- Lost Creek Park (near intersection of Locust and Lockwood): This site will preserve open space while providing opportunities for passive recreation such as trails and picnicking. The park is scheduled to open before the end of 2005.
- Willis Tucker Park (near Cathcart): Phase I of this regional park will open in 2005. Two ball fields, a community center, trails, a picnic area, a basketball court, and a playground will be completed. Future phases include additional ball fields, more trails, an off-leash dog park, and other features.
- Martha Lake Airport Park: Increased in size due to Dave's efforts, this park will open in 2006. Ball fields, soccer fields, a skateboard park, trails, picnic shelter, and playground will be included.
- Tambark Creek Park (near 35h and 180th): Owned jointly by the county and Mill Creek since the mid-90's, this 40 acre site had been posted 'No Trespassing'. Dave worked with the neighborhood and the department to open the park for local neighborhood use in 2004. Neighbors, parks employees, and jail inmates will add a trail system this summer.
